MiniBar 15-16 Crowbar Circuit - Full Kit
MiniBar 15-16 Crowbar Circuit - Full Kit
This is a crowbar circuit that is designed to trip at 15 or 16 volts. The circuit is designed to operate with typical power supplies operating at 13.8 volts.
The full kit includes a circuit board with the surface mount components pre-populated, 2 Anderson PowerPole connectors, an automotive blade type fuse holder, a 3 pin header and jumper connector to select the trip voltage. The kit also includes 2 pre-cut acrylic plates to protect and insulate the top and bottom of the PC board, and the necessary hardware to mount the plates to the board.
The plus and minus traces from input to output are copper planes. The board can handle 15 amps continuous or up to 30 amps at a 50% duty cycle of 30 seconds on and 30 seconds off.

Very easy to assemble, board seems very robust, good fail safe if power supply misbehaves.
Some high current DC power supplies built offshore have been known to short the output switching elements. When this happens, all your Radios, meters, etc. connected to your 13.8 volt buss are subjected to voltages as high as 100 volts. This device is cheap insurance that a faulty switcher won't fry your expensive radios. I own two Mini Bars, and will not connect a radio to my 13.8 Volt buss unless it's protected.
Saw this reviewed and thought this would be a great addition for power protection for my radios.
When I put the kit together, I realized the screws for the kit is missing. I am disappointed that as few of part that come in the kit, they would miss anything.
But its still usable, just a bit disappointed.
I'm very sorry that your kit arrived without the screws. We try to be sure all kits are complete, but we obviously missed that one. To make up for your inconvenience a new kit, with screws, will be on its way to you today.
great little kit. Tom is very helpful when it comes to answering a questions and providing advice
Easy build, it wasn’t something I thought I needed but I learned about the protection it provided in the video. I will use it in my vehicle for voltage spikes.
